WORKSHOPS/EVENTS:

2010 Job Shadow Day
- The Chicago Public Schools  Department of College and Career
Preparation is requesting your organization’s participation in 2010 Job Shadow Day on
Wednesday, February 10, 2010.  February is Career and Technical Education month.   Job
Shadow Day is a national initiative dedicated to engaging students in the world of work. The
goal is to create an opportunity for students to shadow employees in businesses across the
city.

Job shadowing is an academically motivating activity designed to give young adults an “on
the job” look at the world of work.  Chicago Public Schools participants are juniors from
Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.  CTE students follow a three-year
sequence of courses in a specific area of career and/or technical education.  Job Shadow
Day students will shadow workplace mentors through a routine (short) day on the job to see
how the skills they are learning in school relate to competency and success in the
workplace.

Students will be on your site from 10:00 a.m. until approximately 2:00 p.m. and have the
opportunity to provide a helping hand and learn more about a particular career field.  Hosts
should plan to provide lunch for their students if possible.

In order to strengthen the partnerships of businesses and the experience for the students
participating in Groundhog Job Shadow Day; although it is not mandatory, we would like to
request that your company consider offering students who perform in an outstanding
manner on job shadow day, a summer internship next summer.

If you are interested in participating in 2010 Job Shadow Day, please complete the attached
registration form and return it to me before Friday, October 30, 2009.
